Tasks (Bunker)

An interior counterpart to Tasks (Chieftain) this video work is also filmed as a single shot yet this time the camera is not fixed but moves with and around the six protagonists. Here, the camera is not a distant observer but a choreographic device that is pulled around the space by people and their activities. While the sound in the outdoor tasks is entirely in front of the viewer - a tonally dry and repetitive composition of tools in the snow – here the sound booms and echoes, reverberating around the concrete underground space. We follow one activity, one character, until drawn into the tasks of another all the while aware of what might be happening behind ‘us’, behind the camera’s current attention.
